Welcome!

Our Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor region offers something for everyone!  With its treasure trove of ancient beauty, cultural inspirations, historic time travel, great restaurants and shops, and numerous attractions throughout more than 203 villages, cities, towns and hamlets, a uniquely different experience is just waiting to be sampled, no matter the season.

Enter the region through our bookend airports, either from Albany International in the east or Hancock International (Syracuse) in the west.  Arrive here by boat, cruising the 173.5 mile Erie Canal from locks 2-24. Locks and marinas provide opportunities to dock and stay for any length of time with amenities and connecting travel options nearby.

Our NYS Canalway Bike Trail route follows both active and historic sections of the Erie Canal along 160 miles of trail.

State Routes 4, 5, 5S & 20 embody a rich and varied history that is defined by scenic beauty, natural and cultural resources, recreational activities and agricultural traditions.  Interstates I-87 and I-90 (the Northway and the Thruway) traverse the region and offer modern full-service rest areas and conveniently spaced exits to reach attractions, services and communities easily.

Amtrak offers their “unique and interactive travel experience” Trails to Rail program in our region.  Ride the Maple Leaf Route while on-board, interpretative guides narrate the arts and history treasures along the route.  This educational program is a combined effort between Amtrak and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, an affiliated area of the National Park Service.
